The internet was invented in 1950 by sevarl people. The internet is used world wide and for many different things. The internet can tell you anything you want to now such as history and much more. The internet is one of the things that can nearly do anything.
Telegrams
Telegrams were a way of communicating short messages mainly deaths marriages and births. They were very expensive because you had to pay by the number of letters which is why people sent short messages. Telegrams were much quicker than letters. They were used in world war I and world war II to say if someone had died.
MOTAT
On Tuesday the year 5's of Meadowbank School had a trip to MOTAT to learn more about globalisation and communication. We were all looking forward to this because there are always cool things and interesting ways to communicate at MOTAT.
When we got to MOTAT we had morning tea and played in the games area. I played with the musical pipes that you hit with jandals we also ran up and down this wobbly hill. After that we went to this special classroom. When you got in the classroom there is a big lego-type farraswheel. First the teacher talked to us about the olden day cameras. I got to see how it would work but I couldn't figure it out because you had to hold the camera by your stomach and look through the small window at the top. Mum couldn't figure it out either. Then the teacher talked about the olden day typewritters. The first one was 100 years old, the next one was a bit more modern and the one built after that nearly looked like a printer. When you pressed the buttons really quickly it sounded like a machine gun. The olden day computers had massive disks like frizbees and you had put in about 10 of those to download 1 work or game. Then the floopy disc was invented which could download a bit more than a big disc. The little memry sticks that we have in our day can download a lot more than the other ones can with 100 discs. Then she showed us the phones. Alexander Bell invented the first ever telephone and it could only go two stores. There was the phones where you had to ring the exchange and the lady had to ask what number you wanted and pull one of the cords out and place it into that persons phone connection. Then there was the home telephone invented not just one for work and you had to wind it around to call numbers which took longer than calling on a cellphone. Then the cellphone was invented and it was like a big radio that you had to carry around. Then the brick phone was invented. It was called the brick phone because it was so heavy like a brick. Then the phones started to get more modern and smaller and smaller and link into the internet and send photos and things. We got to play with all the things and me and mum wrote our names in braille.
After our talk we got a tram ride in Melbourne tram. The Melbourne trams are green and they are much bigger than the ones in NZ which are red. We went past the zoo on our trip and across the road. The driver told us really interesting facts then he swopped ends and said that the trams had a certian amount of time before they had to start working again so if you were late you would miss it. Then we went on the Voyager. The Voyager is a big circular rom that had a screen and a projector in it and it was like a roller coaster because it would show the track on the screen and the room moved around as if it was actually on a roller coaster. Then we had lunch. After lunch we had maps and had to find certain things to finish our tasks. First we had to find the Depot which we struggled with then we had to find things in the Depot like gumboots and other kiwi icons. Then we went to the Village and there were stilts at the Village and we all had a turn and me and my friends could not master it. Then we went to the Edmond Hilary part and saw the real Massey Fergusson tractor that had chains around its wheels to move across the snow and ice easier. There was also a train section and if you pressed a button it made a train go around the room. We also went through the mirror maze which is a maze but all the walls are mirros so you get confused where you are meant to go it was really fun.
We were really disappointed to go home from our excellent fabulous day at MOTAT. I recommend MOTAT to people who are interested in old things and want to study about history. I really enjoyed it and would go again any day!!
Globalisation
In the past people used to communicate with letters, post cards and phone. Phone calls were expensive internationally so weren't used as much as letters which were the main way to communicate but quite slow. This is the way people stayed in touch.
Today people comunicate with; E-mail,skype,facebook,scanning images, digital photos, twitter, mobile phone, phone, letters, post cards, fax and text. Mum says that communication is much faster now, so it is much easier to stay in touch with people in NZ and overseas. It also means you can buy things or research quickly and efficiently on the internet. These new technologies make our lives easier.

When they were in the air they shook their hooves as if they were trying to fly.

Many years ago in Ireland there lived lots of little green happy Leprechaun. One day some people came in big ships and invaded all of Ireland where the Leprechaun were. The Leprechaun had a meeting and decided to hide all their treasure. But when it rains the rainbow always points to where the Leprechaun have hidden the pot of gold and jewels. So the leprechaun constantly have to move the pot of gold to a different place because if someone catches the leprechaun they have to grant them 3 wishes or give them all their jewels and money.
